Who is responsible

Tekiji is published by RINSAI TECH Inc. (株式会社凛彩テック), a Japanese corporation. For everything on this page that company is the data controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the 個人情報取扱事業者 under Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information (個人情報の保護に関する法律).

What is collected, and what it is for

One thing is collected from a reader: the email address typed into the subscribe form. Nothing else on that form is kept — the second field is a trap for automated signups that no reader sees, and an entry in it is discarded rather than stored.

The purpose is single, and it is the one stated at the point of collection: to send the Tekiji weekly summary — one English email a week — to the address given. That address is used for no other message, is never passed to anyone for their own marketing, and is never traded.

The weekly email is delivered by Resend, which records the delivery events of the messages it sends under the settings held on that account. Tekiji adds no tracking of its own to the message: it carries no image, no script and nothing loaded from another server.

A second thing is collected on the /pro/ page: the email address and the company name typed into the request form. The purpose is equally narrow — to prepare and send you the English page for the company you named, and to reply to you about that request. If you also tick the box for the weekly summary, the address joins the subscriber list for that purpose too, and everything above applies to it.

The legal basis

Under the GDPR the basis is your consent, Article 6(1)(a). It is given in one step: typing your address into the subscribe form and submitting it. That request is what adds the address as a subscriber, and nothing further is asked of you.

Consent can be withdrawn at any time and withdrawing costs nothing: use the unsubscribe link at the foot of any issue, or write to privacy@rinsaitech.com. Withdrawal does not affect anything already sent.

Who else processes it

Two services stand between this site and your inbox. Each acts on RINSAI TECH's instructions; neither is given your address in order to use it for itself.

• Resend (Resend, Inc., United States) — keeps the subscriber list and delivers the weekly email. Your address lives in a Resend segment, and that is the only personal data Tekiji stores anywhere.
• Vercel (Vercel Inc., United States) — hosts this site, runs the subscribe endpoint, and measures how the site is used. Its servers record the ordinary request data of any web request, IP address included, for delivery and abuse prevention. The next section says what the measurement does and how to stop it.

Analytics and cookies

Every page of this site, this one included, loads Vercel Web Analytics. It counts page views and reports the page path, the site you arrived from, your country, and browser, device and operating system type.

It sets no cookie, and it stores nothing in your browser — no identifier, no local storage entry, nothing that survives the visit. Vercel's own description of the mechanism is that end users are identified by a hash created from the incoming request, and that the lifespan of a visitor session is not stored permanently and is automatically discarded after 24 hours. Vercel does not publish the composition of that hash.

Two further kinds of event are recorded, and only these two. When a link into this site carries a utm_source tag, the arrival is recorded together with that tag and the page path. When the subscribe form is submitted and the address is added, the same two values are recorded again. Neither event carries your email address or anything else typed into the form. The reason for recording them is narrow: the tags are ones Tekiji put in its own links, the page path Vercel reports drops the query string that carries them, and without these two events there is no way to tell which link brought a reader who stayed.

Tekiji reads all of it only in aggregate. It is never joined to a subscriber's email address and is not used to identify an individual reader.

To stop it, use any content blocker, or block requests to tekiji.jp/_vercel/insights/ in your browser. The site works the same either way — nothing on it depends on measurement. The subscribe form sets no cookie of its own, and the site carries no advertising or profiling tag.

Where it goes

RINSAI TECH is in Japan; Resend and Vercel are in the United States. An address given here therefore leaves the EEA and the UK.

Transfers to Japan are covered by the European Commission's adequacy decision of 23 January 2019. Transfers to the two United States processors rest on the transfer mechanism each one names in its own published data processing terms.

How long it is kept

Your address stays on the list until you leave it. Unsubscribing marks the contact as unsubscribed in Resend rather than erasing it: that record is what stops the address being mailed again, and it is also what lets the same address subscribe again later. If you want the record itself erased, write to privacy@rinsaitech.com and it is deleted.

Analytics data stays available to Tekiji for twelve months, the reporting window of the Vercel plan this site is on, and is never exported into any Tekiji system. Vercel's request logs expire on Vercel's own schedule.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you may ask for a copy of the personal data kept about you, ask for it to be corrected or erased, ask for its processing to be restricted, object to that processing, ask for the data in a portable form, and withdraw consent. Japan's 個人情報保護法 gives an equivalent set: disclosure, correction, suspension of use, and deletion.

One address answers all of them: privacy@rinsaitech.com. A reply is sent within one month, nothing is charged, and no account is needed — the address you write from is what identifies the request.

If you are in the EEA or the UK and the answer does not satisfy you, you may lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority. In Japan the equivalent is the 個人情報保護委員会 (Personal Information Protection Commission).

Changes to this page

This page is generated from the site's own source and is republished with the rest of the site. When something material changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it.
